Cover surfaces show signs of surface insect nibbling, rubbing, and staining. Binding is tight, pages are clean and slightly yellowed. . Author was somewhat of a Leonardo da Vinci. He was a successful soldier, civil engineer, naturalist, geologist, lawyer, legislator, poet, novelist, editor, and literary critic. His most famous work is probably the historical novel Alice of Old Vincennes. He was also state geologist for Indiana for a five year period, during which this volume was produced. Thompson wrote several of the articles himself. Relatively long articles deal with the geology of Tippecanoe County, Henry County, Washington County, Clinton County and Benton County, The Wabash Arch, the Origin of the Indiana Flora, The Pre-Historic Race in Indiana, and Natural Gas. Includes an index. Laid in is a typwritten poem by Jim Harned entitled "A Soliloquy of the Ohio River" dated 8/9/30. On the verso of this page is a detailed hand-sketched diagram of the geology of "Typical oil structure, Shrewsberry Ky. , Nash Farm, South of W. Ky. Fault." . 8vo - 8" to 9" tall. 359 pages. Geology.
