Cream covers with green and gilt decoration and titles to spine. Covers are a little soiled, gilt a little dulled but still quite readable. Extremities of spine have a couple of tiny tears. Green topstain to top page ends, as issued. Binding is tight, pages are clean and unmarked. This is the first printing, stated. No dust jacket. . Letter to former owner from James Michener is pasted to last endpaper, SIGNED BY MICHENER, typed on his letterhead, and dated June 25, 1951. Michener thanks him (a Colonel Hunnell) for his comments, evidently on this book, and states that he, Michener, is indebted to Hunnell for them. Hunnell's bookplate is found on the first endpaper. This was Michener's third book, and the title refers to Tales of the South Pacific, his first. In this book Michener returns to the South Pacific with more tales. Dust jacket has loss of 1/4-inch at head and foot of spine, faded title to spine, light edgewear. Protected by fresh mylar sleeve. Book has shallow bump at head and foot of spine, no other defects. Bound in brown cloth with gilt titles to spine. Tiqht, square, pages clean. . Early Michener work telling the story of the failed Hungarian revolution against the communist regime of the Cold War.
